Air transport is a very important tool for national, regional and global economic growth, social integration and overall sustainable development. It facilitates international trade and tourism, creates jobs, supports local businesses, stimulates foreign investments, and contributes to Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
It is therefore important for States and society to take full advantage of the safe and rapid interconnectivity that air transport offers for travel, tourism and trade for citizens and businesses. For Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) in particular, air transport connectivity is an existential requirement for their development, prosperity and integration into the community of nations.
However, there is a lack of uniform aviation development globally and unfortunately many developing States, in particular, are yet to realise the full potentials and benefits of a virile and growing air transport industry.
iPADIS therefore supports aviation development globally to ensure that no country is left behind. It promotes a ‘Aviation Benefits for All’ strategy, underscoring the importance of aviation to the attainment of many of the UN Sustainable development goals (SDGs).
