Singapore, 17 March 2022 – President Halimah Yacob has conferred the Public Service Star (Distinguished Friends of Singapore) on Dr Olumuyiwa Benard Aliu, Lifetime Goodwill Ambassador and former President of the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). This was in recognition of his leadership and contributions to the development of the global civil aviation industry, and his work with Singapore on various international civil aviation initiatives.

WEST AFRICA MINISTERS AND iPADIS MAP OUT AIR TRANSPORT RECOVERY PLAN
Montréal, 19 March 2021–A high-level ministerial meeting of Western African States concluded yesterday with a 15-point post-covid recovery plan for air transport in the region, including strategies for the long-term sustainable development of the industry. The two-day virtual event on enhancing air connectivity and growth in West Africa was organized by the Federal Ministry of Aviation of Nigeria, in cooperation with the International Partners for Aviation Development, Innovation and Sustainability (iPADIS). Also, participating were central African and Caribbean states, international and regional financial and regulatory organizations, as well as industry stakeholders from air transport, tourism, trade, public health and related sectors.

iPADIS Collaborates with the World Bank and African Union on African Aviation’s Response to COVID-19
The President of the International Partners for Aviation Development, Innovation and sustainability (iPADIS), Dr. Olumuyiwa Benard Aliu attended the High-level Webinar on African Aviation in the Aftermath of COVID-19 hosted on September 30th, 2020 by the World Bank.
President Aliu informed the high-level audience that the Novel Coronavirus (COVID 19) pandemic is the biggest, single challenge to affect international air transport. And that prior to COVID-19 the aviation industry as a sector was already facing several challenges to its long-term growth. These include ensuring uniform aviation development globally so that every society enjoys the socio-economic benefits of a safe, secure, efficient, innovative, and environmentally friendly aviation system. This is of particular relevance to Africa and other developing countries, especially the landlocked and small island countries for whom air connectivity is an existential requirement for their development and integration into the global economy.

iPADIS Sees the COVID-19 Challenge as a Unique Opportunity for Transformative Change in Global Aviation.
The Novel Coronavirus (COVID 19) pandemic is the biggest, single challenge to affect international air transport. The situation, which threatens the very existence of the industry, also presents an opportunity for reassessing the role and contribution of civil aviation to the global economy and society in general. It underscores the need to refocus the industry as a major contributor to economic growth, social progress, and sustainable development, as well as the overall well-being of humanity.
The Aviation industry should not plan for a return to a pre-COVID past but rather chart a course to a profitable and sustainable future!
